The Old and The New

Asus Zenfone 5 – Sleek and Economical

For me, it is difficult to let go of old gadgets and opt for a new one, especially when it comes to phones.

I love new gadgets, but letting go of the old ones is tough. At present I don’t think I have any right to criticize any mobile phone, considering I am happily using my HTC wildfire which is about to go into coma anytime. Most of the functions of my old phone have stopped working, but it allows me to make my calls. Hence I am holding on to it.

When I unboxed the Asus Zenfone 5 and placed it besides my older phone, I was shocked to see the difference. Mobile phones have come a long way in the past 3-4 years. Look at the pictures below and you will know what I am talking about.

What attracted me the best was the sleek look of the Zenfone, priced @7999/- on flipkart, which is much lower than what my phone was priced when I acquired it. Off course, I had won the phone in a contest without paying anything, but that is not the issue. The prices are sliding down whereas the features and appearance of the phones are getting better.

Honestly speaking, I haven’t heard much about Asus brand prior to attending their bloggers meet in Bangalore last week. My son had mentioned a high-end laptop from Asus for his animation needs last year. Today, after being exposed to their amazing gadgets, I wonder how they haven’t made more ripples in the Indian market.

The stylish design of Zenfone 5 gives it a very expensive look, especially in the charcoal black color. Being an android user, I had no trouble using it. The only problem I faced was to open the back case of the mobile to insert my sim card in one of the dual slots, since it was a bit tight for my comfort.
The display is another area which has undergone tremendous change. No more struggling to get the phone to respond to my touch. The 5 inch wide HD screen is quite responsive, enough to make your fingers purr in happiness. It can be viewed from large angles which I found out is due to IPS + Technology. It also boasts of responding to glove because of the glove touch technology, a new feature I came across through this phone.
The reflection of my old phone on the new screen... WOW!
On checking out on internet I found that ZenFone 5 is equipped with a high resolution 1280 x 800 HD IPS+ display, sporting a pixel density of 294ppi for an impressive visual appearance. No wonder I was completely bowled by it. Zenfone 5 also comes with advantage of ASUS TruVivid technology which gives it an improved clarity in addition to lighter and beautiful vivid colors.

Though the audio is not so great, the sonic master technology brings out the best when you listen to music with earphones.  I immediately got lost in the world of Linkin Park for another hour.
I am yet to check out its camera, gaming experience and multi-tasking ability. These are important features I look for in a phone I would like to stick with for another 2-3 years. More to come about this phone in coming weeks.

Thank you Rayyan for the amazing images!
